North Stars Pull Out A 3-0 Volleyball Victory

The North All-Stars were able to overcome slow starts in two of the three games to come away with a 3-0 victory over the South Thursday at the AHSAA All-Star Volleyball competition on the campus of Faulkner University in Montgomery.

Huntsville High School’s Jessica Lewis, named the MVP, hit .375 and recorded a match-high 12 kills as the North won for the fourth straight time and improved to 12-4 in the all-time series.

Grissom’s Sarah Ann Tillery hit .625 for the match and added five kills. She also led the way with 10 digs in the 25-23, 25-22, 25-22 victory.

The South scored the first six points in the opening game before the North rallied for the win. After the North team used an 11-4 run to take its first lead, neither team led by more than three points down the stretch. The game ended on a kill by Lewis to give the North the victory.

In the second game the North led wire to wire, holding off a late South rally to post the win. Clinging to a 23-21 lead, a pair of kills by Lewis sandwiched between a kills from the South’s Taja-wana Russell of Carver to give the North a 25-22 win.

The final game played out much like the first with the North overcoming an early deficit. The South jumped out to a 7-3 lead and held a 19-18 advantage down the stretch. Three straight kills, however, gave the North the lead for good. The match ended on a kill by Guntersville Mallory Moore.

Moore finished with seven kills and added three digs and a pair of solo blocks on the day.

The South squad was led by Gabrielle Deshotel, who netted nine kills for the match to go along with her five blocks. The Bayside Academy standout received South MVP honors. McGill-Toolen’s Danielle Harbin also totaled eight kills for the South.
