Lee’s Williams Holds Slim Lead In Decathlon

        HOOVER – Lee-Huntsville High School’s Timothis Williams totaled 3,222 points after five events Monday to hold a slim lead in the 2013 AHSAA Decathlon competition over Hoover’s Charles Mosley.
        Mosley, who set a new record in the decathlon 100-meter competition with an 11.12 time, was second with 3,020 points. Williams was second in the 100-meter dash at 11.27, won the 400-meter dash in 51.42, was second in the long jump and third in the high jump. Mosley was third in the 400.
        Rounding out the top five after day one’s competition at Hoover High School were Quante Brown of Greensboro (2,922), Sam Hardin of Auburn (2,854) and Cameron Stokes of McGill-Toolen (2,853).
        Competition gets underway at 9 a.m. Tuesday with five remaining events – 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,600 meters.

St. Paul’s Teammates First, Third In Heptathlon

        St. Paul’s competitors Shelley Spires and Chanel Krause were first and third after day one of the Heptathlon, also being held at Hoover High School.  Spires won the high jump with a leap of 5-5 to narrowly lead Mortimer Jordan’s Amanda Dean.
        Spires totaled 2,797 points after four events. Dean, who was second in the 200 meters to Elisea Jones of Baker, had 2,592 points. Krause was third, just one point behind Dean with 2,591 points. Sara Stanford of Hoover (2,373) was fourth and Jones (2,336) was fifth.
        Competition begins Tuesday at 10 a.m. for the girls with three remaining events – long jump, javelin and 800 meters.
