Lewis Piles Up 543 Total Yards In Sipsey Valley Win

        Senior quarterback Garret Lewis started For Sipsey Valley as a freshman in the school’s first season in 2010.  Playing with few upper classmen when the school at Buhl opened its high school with students previously zoned for Tuscaloosa County High School, Lewis and his teammates saw their share of losses.
        In fact, Sipsey Valley lost its first 15 games before finishing 2-3 in the final half of last season.
        Friday night, Lewis ran and passed his way into the AHSAA Record Book with 543 total yards and four touchdowns in a wild 54-47 win over Curry to claim the AHSAA Prep Spotlight for Week 5 of the 2012 football season.
        Lewis rushed 11 times for 203 yards and one touchdown and passed for 340 yards and three touchdowns as Sipsey Valley (2-3) set school scoring and passing records in the big win. More importantly, Coach Antonio Ford’s team recorded its fourth win in the last seven games dating back to the 2011 season.
        Lewis edged out John David Jennings, who had a 340-yard rushing performance on 27 carries with four touchdowns as Gaylesville won its first game of the season, 40-13 over Coosa Christian.
        Also a close third was the defensive effort of Piedmont in its 7-0 win over Leeds in a battle of Class 3A unbeatens. Marquez Gamble and Exavyer Jackson each had 10 tackles and combined for five of the Lions’ seven sacks. Gamble also recovered a fumble on the Leeds 13-yard line to set up the game’s only touchdown.

Other top performances reported were:
CLANCY BROWN, BERRY: Recorded 28 tackles in a 50-42 win over Lamar County and scored the game-winning 10-yard touchdown in overtime.
DAKE RIVERS, BEAUREGARD: Had 19 tackles, including two for losses, in a 35-20 loss to Smiths Station.
JUSTIN HENDERSON, FAIRFIELD: The linebacker had 22 tackles, including two for a loss, in the Tigers’ 21-19 setback to Midfield.
BRANDON HOLLAND, BOAZ: The junior linebacker registered 17 tackles, including two for loss, in the Pirates’ 12-7 win over Albertville.
RANDY BLACKWELL, FYFFE: The senior linebacker and running back carried 15 times for 105 yards and two touchdowns, made nine tackles, blocked a punt that a teammate returned for a touchdown and recovered a fumble as the Red Devils (5-0) knocked off previously unbeaten Walter Wellborn 33-19 in a Class 2A headliner.
WILLIAM WINTERS, HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC: Had 10 tackles in a 39-0 win over Southeastern as the Titans won their first game of the season.
CHASE SHORT, STRAUGHN: Kicked a 20-yard field goal with 2:30 left for the winning points in Straughn's 29-26 win over Elba. As a quarterback, he also rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown and completed two passes for 41 yards, one for a touchdown.
PARKER JONES, HOUSTON ACADEMY: Jones was in on nine tackles, including three for losses, and also recovered a fumble that led to a touchdown in the Raiders' 30-14 win over Dale County.
NICOLAS JACKSON, WENONAH: Posted 12 tackles, including five sacks and three tackles for 35 yards in losses, as the Dragons beat Huffman 20-6.
GABLE LAWSON, GAYLESVILLE: Posted 12 tackles, including two for minus yardage, with a sack and a fumble recovery in Gaylesville's 40-13 victory over Coosa Christian.
JACOB PARKER, WESTMINSTER CHRISTIAN: The junior had 11 tackles and also rushed for 92 yards and three touchdowns as Westminster beat Randolph 42-14.
JESSE SEALS, ADDISON: Snared two interceptions in the second half to keep the Bulldogs' 18-0 shutout intact on the road versus Appalachian.
GEORGE PAYNE, ST. LUKE’S: Ran 30 times for 329 yards and five touchdowns as Saint Luke’s downed Saint Jude 42-19.
AARON DILLARD, HUBBERTVILLE:  Ran 27 times for 264 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown run, in a 27-26 win over Shoals Christian. He also caught a 3-yard touchdown pass and kicked three extra points.
HERMAN McKENZIE, TALLASSEE: The sophomore ran for 259 yards on 23 carries and three rushing touchdowns (78, 28, 13 yards) and completed 2-of-2 passes for 41 yards and a 26-yard TD in the Tigers’ 42-34 loss to Dadeville.
HUNTER WOODALL, FALKVILLE: Gained 217 yards rushing on 11 carries, including TD scores of 92 and 96 yards, to lead Falkville (5-0) to a 34-14 win over Sumiton Christian.
D'SHAWN FIFE, CEDAR BLUFF: Rushed for 244 yards on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns (8, 38 yards) in the Tigers' 62-0 victory at Woodville.
DEVIN SCOTT, STRAUGHN: Rushed for 216 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries in Straughn's 29-26 win over Elba.
DANARRIOUS MILLER, HUEYTOWN: Ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns on 30 attempts in the 35-22 win over Pleasant Grove. Miller scored on runs of 29, 18 and 5 yards.
TY JONES, VINEMONT: Had 29 carries for 204 yards — his third 200-yard plus effort of the season — and finished with two touchdowns in a 21-0 home win over Brewer.
JOHNATHAN FORD, NEW HOPE: The Vanderbilt commitment carried 11 times for 183 yards and five touchdowns (48, 1, 65, 18, 23) in a 48-19 win at Good Hope.
TERRANCE HOLLINGSWORTH, BERRY: Rushed for 133 yards and four touchdowns, added 103 receiving yards and 140 kick return yards as the Wildcats nipped Lamar County 50-42 in overtime.
COURTLAND LEWIS, RAMSAY: Ran for 79 yards on 21 carries and scored the game-winning, two-point conversion in a 42-40 triple overtime win against Carver-Birmingham. It marked Ramsay’s first win since 1976 after restarting the program this season.
TOBY PEE, SARDIS: Scored four touchdowns, three rushing and one receiving, in the Lions' 36-21 win over Geraldine. Pee finished with 122 rushing yards on 22 carries.
TRENT THRASH, FYFFE: The senior running back/linebacker carried 16 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns, made five tackles and intercepted a pass in Fyffe's 33-19 win over Walter Wellborn.
RODNEY CAMP, PHILLIPS: The senior quarterback was 19-of-27 passing for 263 yards and three touchdowns, rushed 22 times for 218 yards and two touchdowns to personally account for 481 of the Bears’ 492 total yards in a 58-44 win over Phil Campbell. His longest run was 60 yards. Camp also had six tackles and 36 yards on two kickoff returns. He did not throw an interception.
KALEB BECK, DADEVILLE: Completed 16-of-26 passes for 253 yards and six touchdowns in the Tigers’ 42-34 win over Tallassee in a Class 4A battle of unbeatens.
CHASE CHEANEY, HORSESHOE BEND: Completed 18-of-27 passes for 250 yards and one TD, added 70 yards rushing and another score as the Generals beat Thorsby 48-14. Horseshoe Bend’s 4-1 record ties the 1996 team for best start in school history.
DIANTAE THOMAS, DOTHAN: The Tigers quarterback combined for 311 yards rushing and passing with three touchdowns in a 28-14 win over Carroll. He rushed for 157 yards on 20 carries, including TD runs of 13 and 50 yards in the second half, as Dothan rallied from 14-13 halftime deficit. He finished 8-of-16 passing for 154 yards and a TD.
BLAKE BYRD, CORNER: Accounted for 388 yards total offense and four touchdowns in the 28-22 win over Hayden. Byrd rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries and completed 14-of-21 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Kerry Smith caught nine of his completions for 209 yards with TDs covering 53 and 83 yards.
ZAC CROCKER, CULLMAN: Completed 29-of-39 passes for 277 yards and five touchdowns — two apiece to Mason Jones and Troy Forrest — in a 42-21 home victory over Madison Academy. Jones finished with 11 catches, 10 in the first half, for 64 receiving yards.
CAMERON ECHOLS-LUPER, AUBURN: Completed 8-of-11 passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns and ran 15 times for 132 yards and a score in the Tigers’ 49-24 win over Gadsden City. He also scooped up a fumble and ran it 65 yards for another touchdown.
TUCKER JONES, DEMOPOLIS: Passed for 226 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown in a 27-26 win at Thomasville.
SETH FRANKS, BROOKWOOD: Threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score in a 52-47 win over Oak Grove.
BRAD ROBERTSON, HOKES BLUFF: Passed for two touchdowns and ran two others in the Eagles' 27-24 overtime win over Etowah County rival Glencoe. The senior quarterback passed for the game-tying TD with 22 seconds left in regulation and ran in the winning TD on the first play of Hokes Bluff's overtime possession. He completed 8-of-20 passes for 119 yards.
NICK MULLENS, SPAIN PARK: Completed 16-of-21 passes for 250 yards and five touchdowns (25, 9, 66, 62 and 34 yards) in a 42-16 win over Lee-Montgomery. 
DEACON ALDRIDGE, HARTSELLE: Was 22-of-30 passing for 202 yards and had 105 yards rushing on 21 carries in the Tigers’ 21-14 loss to Decatur. The loss snapped a 19-game winning streak for the defending Class 5A state champions.
WESLEY BAILEY, J.O. JOHNSON: Completed 6-of-11 of passes for 150 yards, had touchdown runs of 3 and 6 yards, and picked off a pass in a 39-6 win against Lee-Huntsville.
NICK BELL, PRICEVILLE: Had four catches for 109 yards and a touchdown, two extra points and the game-winning, 36-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining to beat Danville 17-15.
TRAVEON SAMUEL, CENTRAL-PHENIX CITY: The sophomore caught nine passes for 109 yards and rushed nine times for 163 yards and four touchdowns in the Red Devils’ 33-31 victory over East Coweta (Ga.).
TREY COLLINS, BEAUREGARD: Rolled up 235 tandem yards with a 77-yard kickoff return for a TD, four receptions for 77 yards and a TD and seven carries for 72 yards and another score in the Hornets’ 35-20 loss to Smiths Station.
TEVIN MADISON, FAYETTE COUNTY: Madison hauled in four receptions for 153 yards and touchdowns of 32, 27 and 41 yards in a 41-14 win over Sulligent. He scored a fourth TD on an 83-yard kickoff return.
LOGAN MOTTE, MORTIMER JORDAN: Caught all nine of the Blue Devils’ pass completions in a 28-25 win over John Carroll Catholic. He totaled 150 pass receiving yards with TD receptions covering 41 and 22 yards.
DEANTAY WHITE, AKRON: Scored on a 90-yard kickoff return and rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown in a 52-12 win over Marengo.
JESSE BLACKURN, GARDENDALE: Recorded two interceptions and six tackles on defense, and added nine catches for 130 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown reception, in a 31-30 win over Briarwood Christian.
SAM ADAMS, CALERA: Accounted for three touchdowns in the 49-0 win over Shelby County. Adams scored on a 96-yard fumble recovery, a 16-yard run and a 40-yard interception. He added another interception and five tackles.
