Soccer Teams Named For 2013 All-Star Sports Week

The 2013 North-South all-star girls and boys soccer teams for the 17th annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week competition were announced Monday by Alvin Briggs, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA).
The four teams, comprised of current junior student-athletes from across the state, will play at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex in Montgomery July 16.
All-Star Sports Week, set for July 15-20, includes in-state all-star games in soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, basketball and football in addition to the AHSAA Summer Conference with clinics and other professional development sessions for coaches, principals, athletic directors, cheerleader coaches and contest officials.
Also an All-Sports Equipment Expo and other related activities are scheduled throughout the week. Two of the highlights will be the Sportsmanship Banquet, which honors all schools that have not had an ejection or fine during the 2012-13 school year, and the Championship Coaches Awards Banquet, which recognizes coaches whose teams won a state championship during the 2012-13 school year as well as the 2013 Making A Difference Award winners.
The North All-Star girls will be coached by Brigid Littleton of Vestavia Hills and Brad Carwile of East Limestone. George Cavender, retired Butler coach, will serve as administrative coach.
Coaches for the South All-Star girls are Kacey Ivey of Alabama Christian and Jon Sauers of Faith Academy.  Ken Wright of Alabama Christian will serve as administrative coach.
Coaching the South boys will be Ruben Risco of McGill-Toolen Catholic and Bo Morrisey of Auburn. Wright will also serve as administrative coach.
The North boys’ coaching staff includes Joe Webb of Mountain Brook and Sean McBride of Homewood. Cavender is the administrative coach.
The North holds a 10-2-1 edge over the South in the girls’ competition and the North boys lead the series 7-4-1.
The AHSADCA operates under the auspices of the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Membership includes coaches of all AHSAA sports as well as administrators of member schools.
