Week 2 Spotlight Shines On Locust Fork QB, Sardis RB

Locust Fork quarterback Geoffrey Bramblett and Sardis running back Toby Pee each had rare performances last Friday night that are headed for the record books. Even more amazing, however, was the fact that both feats came in the same game.
The duo grabbed the AHSAA Prep Spotlight for week two of the 2012 football season.
Sardis posted a wild 68-48 victory over the Hornets with a point total that set a Sardis school record. The combined point total is one of the highest on record at the AHSAA.
BRAMBLETT, a senior quarterback and the son of head coach Mike Bramblett, passed for 423 yards and three touchdowns on his 30-of-49 performance. He also rushed for 137 yards and two more scores on 20 carries to give him 560 total yards on 69 plays. He also made an interception in his brief stint in Hornets’ defensive secondary.
PEE, also a senior, rushed for 288 yards and four touchdowns and had 127 yards receiving and two more TDs in totaling 415 total yards and six touchdowns. Combined, the two players piled up 975 yards and 11 touchdowns in a game that produced a total of 116 points.
The Sardis running back is off to a great start in 2012 with 496 yards rushing and nine TDs in two games.
Bramblett now has 763 yards passing (58-of-98) and 224 yards rushing on 44 carries for an average of 493.5 total yards per game. His single-game passing and total offense high came last year when he passed for 529 yards in a 33-of-54 performance in 70-40 loss at Cleburne County. He also rushed for 40 yards for a 569 total.
In the Sardis game, Bramblett connected with six different receivers with Todd Goodwin and Clay Smith each grabbing seven receptions for 166 and 109 yards, respectively. The 560 total yards ranks fifth all-time in the AHSAA Record Book. Bramblett also has the fourth best (569) and seventh best (523 yards) totals, both accomplished last year. Pee’s 415 yards rank 24th.
The two efforts edged out a great defensive performance by Abbeville linebacker Sean Anderson and a super kick return performance by Ider’s Matthew Collins for this week’s top spotlight.

COLLINS, a junior fullback, tied a state record held by seven others when he returned two kickoffs for touchdowns in a 37-14 victory over visiting West End. Collins opened the game with a 70-yard kickoff return for a TD and also closed the scoring with a 75-yard return in the fourth quarter. Collins also scored his team's second TD on a 1-yard run early in the second quarter, giving the Hornets a 14-0 lead.
Ironically, Collins became the fourth player from DeKalb County to claim part of single-game kickoff return record, joining Fyffe's Jeff Pitts (1995), Fort Payne's Randy Posey (2006) and Geraldine's Michael Davis (2011).
ANDERSON recorded 28 tackles, including the game-clinching stop on Geneva’s two-point try in the second overtime, to preserve the Abbeville’s 44-42 win over the Panthers. That ranks as fifth best all-time in the AHSAA Record Book.
