North Volleyball All Stars Wins Match 3-1

North 3, South 1 (Box Score)

    After dropping the opening set, the North rebounded with three straight victories to post a 3-1 win Thursday in the AHSAA North-South All-Star game at Faulkner University. The 15-25, 25-16, 25-12, 25-9 win avenged a rare loss last year to the South and gave the North a 13-5 lead in the all-time series which began in 1997.
    Bob Jones setter Erin Shockey won MVP honors for the North, who had five players with at least five kills on the day. Schockey finished the day with 31 assists.
    Shockey’s Bob Jones teammate Jeneva Salter led the way with eight kills. Hoover standout Kathryn Cather added seven kills while Hazel Green’s Breanna Jones recorded six kills for the North. Sydni Shelton (Danville) and Haley Hop (James Clemens) also added five kills each.
    North Libero Julia Smith of Mountain Brook turned in a match-high 10 digs to lead the team’s defensive effort. Jones and Cather added five blocks each for the game.
    The South was led by MVP Kelsea Bivins. The Thompson standout and Central Florida commit recorded seven kills, four digs and had a pair of service aces. Ali Sutherland of St. Paul’s led the South with eight digs.
