All Activities Halted Until Tuesday; Decision Monday

A tentative schedule has been set for postponed AHSAA playoff events if activities can resume on Tuesday, May 5. All events were halted Wednesday by the current outbreak of swine influenza (H1N1) that has closed three school systems in the Huntsville area.
The postponement of events came after conferring with the AHSAA Medical Advisory Board and the State Department of Education. Further decisions will be based on medical information the AHSAA continues to receive.

The tentative schedule for resuming the playoffs:

TRACK & FIELD: All classes will compete at Gulf Shores Sportsplex, the 1A-3A meet Thursday and Friday (May 7-8) and the 4A-6A meet on Friday and Saturday (May 8-9).
Class 1A-3A schools may make reservations HERE
Class 4A-6A schools may contact Sarah Hicks
or Michelle Russ about reservation deposits already made through the Gulf Coast Commission contacts.

SOCCER: The second round games will be played Tuesday (May 5). The state tournament (May 8-9) will be played as scheduled.
BASEBALL: Third round series will be played Tuesday and Wednesday (May 5-6). The semi-final series, to be played Friday and Saturday (May 8-9) as scheduled, may play one game on Friday and two games, if necessary, on Saturday if both schools agree. The state tournament (May 12-15) will be played as scheduled.
SOFTBALL: Any postponed area tournaments will be rescheduled or resumed Tuesday (May 5). Area tournaments may use a single elimination format if all schools in a tournament agree. The regional tournaments (May 8-9) and the state tournament (May 14-16) will be played as scheduled.
GOLF: All sub-state tournaments will be played Tuesday (May 5). The state tournament (May 11-12) will be played as scheduled.

“Carrying out this schedule will be determined Monday morning at 9 a.m. in a conference call with our Medical Advisory Board,” said Steve Savarese, AHSAA Executive Director. “We regret any inconvenience these postponements might have caused anyone.”

AP TEST MAKEUP: Advanced Placement tests scheduled May 4-15 may be rescheduled upon written request of a school principal stating the reason for a makup (reference swine flu outbreak).  College Board will not charge for a new test if a request is approved (Fax: 609-883-9412). Makeup dates are May 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29.
