North All-Stars Sweep Volleyball Series

   
       HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville High School outside hitter Kenzie Broome dominated the net with 11 kills and two blocks Thursday afternoon to lead the North All-Stars to a 25-14, 25-19, 25-23 victory over the South at All-Star Sports Week.

          With the win, the North extended its overall record to 10 series wins in the 14-year history. The South has won four series in the competition that began in 1997. The last South win was 2008.

          The volleyball competition was held at Spragins Hall Gymnasium on the campus of the University of Alabama-Huntsville. All-Star Sports Week is an event of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA).

           Broome was named North MVP. The North had 12 kills in game one and game two and finished with a 31-20 edge in  overall kill shots. Sadie Beam of Addison added four kills and seven digs and setter Anna Buckley of Grissom had 12 assists.

          Leading the South was Murphy rising senior Logan Johns with five kills and four digs. Margaret Spaulding of McGill-Toolen added seven assists, three kills and four digs for the South.

          Coaching the North were Jimmy Latta of Guntersville and Christie Brothers of Geraldine. Libby Hoffman of UMS-Wright and Virginia Franklin of Carver-Montgomery coached the South.
