The Alabama High School Athletic Association’s eligibility rules remain the same for the 2008-09 school year, including the two units that can be earned during the summer.
A maximum of two units (or subjects) earned in an approved summer school may be counted under the Academic Rule. If a unit (or subject) is repeated in summer school, the higher numerical grade for that unit (or subject) may be used to compute the composite grade average.
An accredited correspondence course may be accepted by a school system and be one of the two maximum summer units counted for eligibility purposes. The course must be completed before Sept. 1
Units earned through Credit Recovery may also be among the two maximum summer units counted for eligibility purposes. If Credit Recovery is used to make up Carnegie units, they can only be accepted if they are earned through a State Department of Education-approved program.
