Soccer Teams Named For 2014 All-Star Sports Week

The 2014 North-South all-star girls and boys soccer teams for the 18th annual All-Star Sports Week competition were announced Thursday by Alvin Briggs, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA).
The four teams, comprised of current junior student-athletes from across the state, will play at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex in Montgomery July 22.
All-Star Sports Week, set for July 21-25, includes in-state all-star games in soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, basketball and football in addition to the AHSAA Summer Conference with clinics and other professional development sessions for coaches, principals, athletic directors, cheerleader coaches and contest officials.
Also, an All-Sports Equipment Expo and other related activities are scheduled throughout the week. Two of the highlights will be the Sportsmanship Banquet, which will honor all schools that do not have an ejection or fine during the 2013-14 school year, and the Championship Coaches Awards Banquet, which will recognize coaches whose teams win a state championship in the 2013-14 school year. That banquet will also honor the 2014 Making A Difference Award winners.
The South boys will be coached by Jeff Pippin of Citronelle and Dann Cleveland of Trinity Presbyterian. Ken Wright of Alabama Christian will serve as administrative coach.
Coaching the North boys are Carter Hill of Northridge and Blake Harvard of James Clemens.  George Cavender, retired Butler coach, will serve as administrative coach.
Coaches for the South girls are Jason Thompson of Gulf Shores and Chris Blight of Auburn. Coaching the North are Will Patridge of Hoover and Tiffany Cargill of Southside-Gadsden.
Cavender and Wright will also serve as administrative coaches for the North and South girls’ teams, respectively.
The North holds a 10-2-1 edge over the South in the girls’ competition and the North boys lead its series 8-4-1.
The AHSADCA operates under the auspices of the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Membership includes coaches of all AHSAA sports as well as administrators of member schools.
