ASWA Names 2014 All-State Baseball Team
Ardmore High School senior left-hander Cody Reed headlines the 2014 Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) All-State Baseball Team released June 6.
Reed, who had an 0.46 ERA, finished 10-2 with 226 strikeouts and only 17 walks in 92 innings this past season. He allowed only 28 hits, 10 runs and six earned runs on the season. He was voted by the ASWA prep sports writers as Class 4A Pitcher and Player of the Year and was also chosen Gatorade Player of the Year.
He was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second round, signed over the weekend and reports to Arizona this week. Reed is the only repeat player of the year from 2013.
Reed is also a repeater on the ASWA Super All-State Team. His coach, Andrew Smith, was selected Class 4A Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to the state finals.
He The ASWA also selected Pitcher of the Year, Hitter of the Year and Player of the Year for each of the six AHSAA classifications.
Charles Henderson High School junior catcher Chase Smartt was selected 4A Hitter of the Year.
