ASWA Names 2014 All-State Softball Team
Winfield High School junior pitcher Madi Moore, named Miss Softball for the 2014 season by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, headlines the ASWA 2014 Super All-State and All-State team selections.
The left-hander (25-5) won 17 of her last 18 games to lead the Pirates to the Class 3A state championship, struck out 296 in 194 innings and allowed 23 earned runs for an 0.83 ERA.
Moore, who became the 12th player selected by the ASWA for the Miss Softball honor, hurled 10 shutouts and two no-hitters in leading Winfield to its first softball title in school history. She was also selected the ASWA Class 3A Pitcher and Player of the Year.
Joining Moore on the Super All-State team is Haleyville’s Holly Ward, the only two-time Super All-State selection on this year’s squad, and senior Reagan Tittle of Lynn, making the All-State team for the fifth time.
Ward, a Mississippi State signee and four-time All-State selection, was chosen Class 4A Player of the Year and also recently named the state Gatorade Player of the Year. Tittle, a North Alabama signee, was named to the ASWA Class 1A All-State first team every year, starting as an eighth-grader in 2010. Tittle was first-team shortstop this year, catcher in 2013 and 2012, utility in 2011 and designated hitter in 2010.
Other AHSAA four-time selections on the 2014 All-State Team are Class 6A Player of the Year Jordan Bullock of Sparkman, Micaela Beck of Winfield and Emily Woodruff of Albertville.
