Phares Receives FCA Scott Achievement Award
Mike Phares, a teacher/coach from Dothan, received the Herman “Bubba” Scott Award Thursday at the annual Alabama Fellowship of Christian Athletes luncheon at the Renaissance Hotel and Conference Center. The luncheon is an annual function at the AHSAA Summer Conference and All-Star Sports Week.
Phares, a native of Chipley, Fla., recently retired and joined the FCA staff.
The lifetime achievement award is named for the late AHSAA Executive Director Herman L. Scott, who helped start the FCA in Alabama during his tenure with the AHSAA.
Scott’s son Mike and granddaughter Susan Carothers were present for the award presentation along with FCA State Director John Gibbons.
The speaker at the luncheon was Joe Erhmann, former NFL standout and author.
