Saban To Speak At  Super 6 Kickoff Dinner

TUSCALOOSA—Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban will be the featured speaker at the AHSAA Super 6 Kickoff Dinner Dec. 2, according to an announcement by the Tuscaloosa Sports Foundation.

AHSAA coaches will be invited to the 6 p.m. dinner at “The Zone” in Bryant-Denny Stadium, the site of the Super 6 Football Championships Dec. 3-4.  After the dinner, members of the University of Alabama coaching staff will host a “Coaches Chalk Talk” at the stadium for the several hundred coaches expected to attend.

Earlier in the day, an AHSAA Coaches Welcome Reception is scheduled at the Bryant Museum.

A Fellowship of Christian Athletes Coaches Breakfast is scheduled Thursday, Dec. 3, at 8 a.m. in the Zone with a guest speaker to be named.

The Super 6 championships, now scheduled on a rotating basis between Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa and Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, will be played in Tuscaloosa Dec. 3-4 with three games each day.

“We are excited about the interest shown at both of the new Super 6 sites,” said Steve Savarese, Executive Director of the AHSAA.

The 2009 game schedule has the Class 3A finals set for 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 3, followed by the Class 1A title game at 3 p.m. and the Class 5A finale at 7 p.m.  Friday’s schedule will feature the Class 4A finals at 11 a.m., Class 2A at 3 p.m. and Class 6A at 7 p.m.

“Coach Saban’s presence at this event projects the significance he places on the AHSAA Championships, its coaches and Tuscaloosa.  His speech is expected to attract several hundred coaches for the dinner and the “Coaches Chalk Talk” immediately following,” said Don Staley, Executive Director of the Tuscaloosa Sports Foundation. “The AHSAA, Tuscaloosa Sports Foundation and our community leaders are indebted to Coach Saban and his staff for supporting the event which in turn helps create excitement, exposure and economic stimulus.”
